Grieving Thru Art - Adults

You can lose your
keys, glasses or phone. You can loose a child, a spouse or a friend. You can
loose your heart, your status or your mind (Jodi Piccoult, Storyteller, 2013).

Yet, the worst
thing to loose is your hope. Grief from a loss or a transition can haunt and
prey on one’s mind, erode hope and open the door for intrusive feelings and
thoughts.

Oppressed emotion can cause us pain, depression
and anxiety due to trauma experienced from our personal and vicarious losses
and transitions. Art therapy is a way to acknowledge and begin to work with raw
feelings that are held deep within us. Art allows us to let go of our cognitive
thinking patterns and intuitively examine our raw emotions and experiences.
