Obituary: Jacqueline Chase Cassidy, 86, of Southbury

A memorial service will be scheduled at the convenience of the family.

  Jacqueline “Jacquie” Chase Cassidy died peacefully at her home in Southbury on Thursday evening, May 3, 2012. She was the beloved wife of John Hughes Cassidy Jr. Together they provided a loving and nurturing household for their children and grandchildren throughout their 61 years of marriage. Cassidy was born on August 5, 1925 in Berkeley, Calif., daughter of the late Coranna Bernais Chase and Edmund Rowland Chase, sister of Patricia Harbage of Severna Park, M.D., and Frederick S. Chase II of Hollywood, Fla. Raised in Middlebury, she graduated from Saint Margaret’s School, currently The Chase Collegiate School in Waterbury, named in honor of the Chase family.  Cassidy attended Smith College, then elected to support war efforts by working…

  William Fielding Secor, 69, died early Sunday morning — May 13, 2012 — surrounded by his wife and children. Fielding was born in Waterbury on September 8, 1942, the eldest child of William Julius Secor, Jr. and Barbara Wynne Secor. His paternal grandparents were William J. Secor and Gertrude Lynch Secor; his maternal grandparents were the Hon. Kenneth Wynne, former chief justice of Connecticut Supreme Court, and Mary Fielding Wynne. Fielding is survived by his wife, Judith Godburn; his son, Casey McAdoo Secor of Columbia, S.C.; his daughter, Sarah Secor Malzone and her husband Wes; of Housatonic, Mass.   Douglas E. Sweeney Jr., 57, of Hurst, Texas, formerly of Middlebury and Thomaston, died Saturday May 12, 2012, at Community Hospice of Texas in Fort Worth. Sweeney was born in Waterbury on April 26, 1955, son of the late Douglas and Elizabeth (Emerson) Sweeney. He worked for the Connecticut Department of Corrections as a vocational instructor before moving to Texas to live with his sister Sara.   Dorothy Ann Russo, 74, of Woodbury died Saturday May 12, 2012, at Waterbury Hospital. She was born April 14, 1938, in Bronx, N.Y., the daughter of the late Harry and Anna (Harrigan) Russo. She most recently was employed by Ericson Insurance in Washington Depot as an account manager for several years. Prior to her insurance career, she was involved in the perfume industry in Europe where she lived for a number of years. She was an avid animal lover and advocate. Russo was an elegant woman who will be sorely missed by all who knew her. A memorial mass for Nick Nardelli, who owned a Waterbury business and had family in Middlebury, will take place on May 19, 2012.

  Nick Nardelli, 81, died unexpectedly on April 30, 2012, in his hometown of San Pietro Infine, Province of Caserta, Italy. He was born November 15, 1930, son of the late Diomira De Iulianis and Domenico Nardelli. He came to the United States in 1967 and opened Nick Nardelli’s on the corner of West Dover and South Main Street in Waterbury. Nardelli retired in 1996 and chose to return to his home town of San Pietro Infine, Province of Caserta, Italy, where he enjoyed the remainder of his life. He leaves his brother, Corraddo Nardelli and his wife Dina; his nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, all of Italy. Ridgefield Author Maurice Sendak Dies at 83

The celebrated children's author was best known for his book "Where The Wild Things Are."

  Ridgefield's famed children's book author and illustrator Maurice Sendak died Tuesday, May 8, at the age of 83. The celebrated children's author, best known for his book "Where The Wild Things Are," was "widely considered the most important children’s book artist of the 20th century," the New York Times reports. The Times reports that Sendak died of complications from a recent stroke, according to his longtime editor, Michael di Capua. "Where The Wild Things Are" was published in 1963, and the story of a little boy named Max who sails into his dreams to have a "wild rumpus" with imaginative, sometimes nightmarish monsters was a bestseller. Obituary: Ronald Pruchnicki Dies at 70

Former Naugatuck police detective and former owner of Anthony's Pizza in Waterbury.

  Ronald W. Pruchnicki, Sr., age 70, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday May 4, 2012. Pruchnicki was born in Waterbury on October 3, 1941, son of the late Theophile and Dorothy M. (Kraus) Pruchnicki. He resided in Naugatuck for most of his life and he graduated from Naugatuck High School. Pruchnicki moved to Middlebury five years ago. He had retired from the Naugatuck Police Department, being the only permanent detective in town at that time. He was the owner of Corey’s Market in Naugatuck for many years.   Jean Hackenson, 56, of Epping, N.H., formerly of Middlebury, died Saturday April 28, 2012, at the Boston Medical Center. Hackenson was born April 20, 1956 in Waterbury, CT, daughter of Nancy (Stella) Guerrera of Middlebury and the late John R. Guerrera. She was raised in Middlebury and was a 1974 graduate of Southbury High School. Hackenson was an avid music and animal lover. She loved gardening and arts and crafts and she was a wonderful cook and baker. She worked as a cosmetologist at Hair Plus in Southbury and as a fitness trainer at Curves in Bethlehem before moving to New Hampshire. A beloved son and brother, a mechanical engineer and a 2010 graduate of the University of Connecticut.

  William J. Baer Jr., “B.J.”, age 24, of Beacon Falls, a mechanical engineer at GKN Aerospace of Cromwell, died suddenly on Sunday, April 29, 2012 at Waterbury Hospital. Born in Bridgeport on August 30, 1987, he was the beloved son of William J. Baer, Sr. and Lynn Ann Neto Baer. B.J. was a member of the Class of 2005 at Woodland Regional High School of Beacon Falls, a 2010 graduate of UCONN where he earned a B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering and was currently working towards a Masters in Engineering. He was an avid Yankee, Giants and UCONN basketball and football fan. B.J. was a member of the Jonathan L.
