CT Swimming Areas: What's Open and Closed On the 4th of July

The CT DEEP listed the state's open and closed beaches, ponds and lakes, just in time for the 4th of July and the holiday weekend.

  • Cockaponset State Forest (Pattaconk), Chester
  • Day Pond State Park, Colchester
  • Gardner State Park, Salem

Listed above are the state park beaches where water quality is tested weekly, starting on Memorial Day weekend and continuing through Labor Day weekend.

The testing is conducted by the CT DEEP to ensure that it is safe for swimming. Samples are collected by DEEP staff and are analyzed at the Department of Public Health Lab. Local health departments are responsible for sampling municipal swimming areas.
