Memorial Day Parades: When and Where


Memorial Day is the unofficial kick-off to summer and it’s also a day for patriotic parades that bring out the best of our communities as we honor veterans past and present.

To help you celebrate the holiday, we’ve put together a list of parades taking place in the area this weekend, ordered alphabetically. Have fun!

Location: Brookfield
Date & Time: Sunday, May 26, 2 p.m.
What You Need to Know: The parade starts in front of the memorial at Williams Park (across from the Brookfield Library), up Route 25 to the Brookfield Museum and Historical Society. The Historical Society will also be holding their annual Strawberry Shortcake Festival and Fallen Heroes exhibit at the end of the parade.

Location: Danbury
Date & Time: Monday, May 27, 9:30 a.m.
What You Need to Know: The parade starts at the corner of Rose and Main streets. It continues down Main Street to Rogers Park. Military parachute jumpers will land in a Rogers Park baseball field at about 10:30 a.m.

Location: Easton
Date & Time: Monday, May 27, 9:30 a.m.
What You Need to Know: The parade will begin at 9:30 a.m. from Easton Fire House Green and Proceed along Center Road to Town Hall.

Location: Fairfield
Date & Time: Monday, May 27, 10 a.m.
What You Need to Know: The parade draws thousands of spectators from throughout the area and the parade route (a section of Route 1 and Old Post Road) is closed to vehicular traffic. Parking opportunities include the Fairfield Train Station and commuter parking lots off I-95, among others. Definitely arrive early to get the best parking spots and viewing locations.

Location: Middlebury
Date & Time: Sunday, May 26, 5 p.m.
What You Need to Know: Best to park at Shepardson, 1172 Whittemore Road. Great viewing opportunities from the Town Green. Arrive early to get a good parking spot and for best seating.

Location: Milford
Date & Time: Sunday, May 26, 2 p.m.
What You Need to Know: All units and marchers are asked to assemble at the Daniel Wasson Field parking lot at 1 p.m. The city’s Memorial Day Wreath Laying Ceremony will also take place on Sunday, May 26, in front of City Hall, beginning promptly at 10 a.m.

Location: Monroe
Date & Time: Sunday, May 26, 2 p.m.
What You Need to Know: The procession will travel from Elm Street and Route 111 north to the Monroe green. Immediately following the parade, the town's Memorial Day ceremony will take place at the War Memorial located directly in front of town hall.

Location: Naugatuck
Date & Time: Monday, May 27, 9:15 a.m.
What You Need to Know: All the information about the parade is contained in this handy press release from the Naugatuck Veterans Council. 

Location: Norwalk
Date & Time: Monday, May 27, 2 p.m.
What You Need to Know: The parade begins at Veterans Park then continues up Fort Point Street, Van Zant Street, East Avenue, and ends at the Town Green. The entrance and exit ramps of I-95 Exit 16, both northbound and southbound, will be temporarily closed between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m.

Location: Orange
Date & Time: Sunday, May 26, 10:30 a.m.
What You Need to Know: Parade ceremonies start at the High Plains Community Center Parade Grounds at the Gazebo. The parade will step off immediately following the ceremony down Orange Center Road past the reviewing stand with services following at the Orange Center Cemetery.

Location: Ridgefield
Date & Time: Monday, May 27, 11:30 a.m.
What You Need to Know: The parade starts at Jesse Lee Church on Main Street.

Location: Rowayton
Date & Time: Sunday, May 26, 12 p.m.
What You Need to Know: The parade route goes from the Community Center to downtown Rowayton. Hot dogs and soda will be served at the firehouse following the parade and the Rowayton Arts Center Art Show at Pinkney Park will be open as well.

Location: Shelton-Derby
Date & Time: Monday, May 27, 9 a.m.
What You Need to Know: The Parade starts at 9 a.m. in Derby near Elizabeth Street and Cottage Street and crosses the Derby/Shelton Bridge, ending in Shelton at the Slab. There will be a service at the bridge. Sunday night, a service will be held at Shelton High School at 7:30 p.m.

Location: Southbury
Date & Time: Monday, May 27, 11 a.m.
What You Need to Know: Enjoy the parade down Main Street South and then head over to Ballantine Park for the Family Day Picnic that starts at noon and will run until 5 p.m.

Location: Trumbull
Date & Time: Monday, May 27, 10 a.m.
What You Need to Know: The parade starts at Marisa's Ristorante on Main Street near Long Hill Green and ends at Town Hall.On Monday morning, at 7:30 a.m. a service will be held at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on White Plains Road and another service starts at 8:30 a.m. at Town Hall.

Location: Westport
Date & Time: Monday, May 27, 9 a.m.

Location: Wilton
Date & Time: Monday, May 27, 10 a.m.
What You Need to Know: The parade begins on River Road, continues through Wilton Center, and up Ridgefield Road to Hillside Cemetery for a ceremony.

Location: Woodbury
Date & Time: Sunday, May 26, 2 p.m.
What You Need to Know: Woodbury Middle School. Parade goes to the Cannon Green on Main Street for a Memorial Ceremony.
