Jet Ski Crash Claims Life of Former Middlebury Man

The accident at Hamburg Cove in Lyme remains under investigation.

 

Austin P. Mordowanec, a former Middlebury resident who was living in Wolcott, died in a jet ski accident on the Connecticut River on Sunday night. He was 34.

According to the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), Environmental Conservation (EnCon) Police received a report at approximately 6 p.m. Sunday, July 15, from the Connecticut State Police about a personal water craft having crashed into a dock.

EnCon Police responded along with local emergency responders and found the operator, Mordowanec, unresponsive. Lyme emergency medical responders pronounced him dead at the scene.

DEEP’s EnCon Police and their Boating Accident Reconstruction Unit are continuing to investigate the incident. Dwayne Gardner, spokesman for the DEEP, said the investigation probably won’t be completed for several weeks.
