Registration Begins for Woodbury Park and Rec's Fall Programs

Classes in ballet, painting, tai chi and zumba are offered.

Woodbury Parks and Recreation's fall programs are open for registration, according to a press release from Director Jenifer Miller.

First Steps Ballet

First Steps Ballet with instructor Sibley Morosco is for 5- and 6-year-old children.

A minimum of six students is needed. The maximum number of children allowed in the program is 12.

Classes take place from 4:15 to 5 p.m. on the following Thursdays: September 29 and October 6, 13, 20 and 27 at Main Street Ballet, 124 South Pomperaug Ave., Woodbury.

Per-session cost to participate is $50 per resident and $65 for non-residents.

The code to register is F11-001.          

The classes introduce new dancers to the building blocks of ballet technique in a fun and playful way, using imagery, rhyme, song, and imagination.

Pre-K Ballet

The Enchanted Doorway Ballet for K-5 students with instructor Sibley Morosco is for children ages 3.5 to 4-years-old.

 Classes take place from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. on the following Mondays: September 26 and October 3, 10, 17 and 24, at Main Street Ballet.

Per session cost to participate is $50 per resident and $55 for non-residents.

The code to register is F11-003.

The dancers will use story, music, dance, and props to stimulate their imaginations, build coordination and learn the fundamentals of ballet technique.

The exercises in this program are geared toward increasing attention span and developing the dancer’s imaginative talents.

Painting Class: Teenagers and Adults

Painting with instructor Mike Teator will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. on the following days: Tuesday, Sept. 27; Wednesday, Oct. 19; Thursday, Nov. 17; and Friday, Dec. 9, at the Historic Town Hall, 5 Mountain Rd., Woodbury.

The classes are open to beginners and experienced painters. All painting materials are provided.

 The September theme is moonlight falls, with a registration code of F11-013.

In October, the class will focus on autumn forests, with a registration code of F11-014.

Peaceful valley and at home in the mountains are the themes for November and December, respectively. The corresponding respective codes are F11-015 and F11-016.

Cost to attend is $50 per resident and $55 per non-resident.

Mike Teator is Bob Ross certified painting instructor who will instruct participants on how to create the scenes noted above.

Tai Chi for Beginners and Intermediate

The tai chi class for adults is taught by instructor Carolann Rich and will take place from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on the following Wednesdays: September 28; October 5, 12, 26; November 9, 16 and 30; and December 7 and 14; at the Senior Community Center, 265 Main St. South, Woodbury.

Classes will not take place on October 19 or November 23. December 21 is listed as a snow date, if needed.

Cost to participate is $85 for residents and $90 for non-residents, with a registration code of F11-029.

An ancient Chinese exercise program of slow, gentle, continuous movements, this exercise consists of a series of changing postures performed in a relaxed manner.

It is practiced for health and used as a means of meditation. Each class consists of a warm-up, review and lesson.

Organizers ask that participants wear comfortanle clothes and wear socks or soft soled shoes, or go barefoot, during the class.

Zumba for Adults

Two sessions of zumba with instructor Ligia Emperatriz Ochoa will take place from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Mondays.

Classes take place at the Senior Community Center. The November 21 class will take place at the Historic Town Hall.

Session one takes place on the following dates: September 19 and 26; October 3, 17 and 24; and November 7. There is no class on October 10 and 31.

 The registration code is F11-031.

Session two will take place on November 14, 21 and 28; and December 5, 12 and 19. December 26 is a snow date, if needed.

The code is F11-032.

Per session cost to attend is $60 per resident and $65 per non-resident.

Zumba is a fitness program with a fusion of Latin and International music and dance.
