Guided Wildflower Walks

The Pomperaug Valley Garden Club, in conjunction with Flanders Nature Center & Land Trust, will host guided walks along the award-winning Botany Trail at the Van Vleck Farm and Nature Sanctuary on Sunday afternoons, May 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 at 2:00 p.m.

            Led by an experienced naturalist, each stroll will wind through woodlands and fields with more than 250 species of native wildflowers, ferns, trees and shrubs on view. Walks begin at the Sugar House parking lot at Flanders Nature Center & Land Trust, located ¼ mile east of the intersection of Flanders and Church Hill Roads in Woodbury.

            The Botany Trail was developed in 1965 by the Pomperaug Valley Garden Club of Woodbury. At that time, Garden Club members salvaged many of the species, which are now replanted and flourishing on the trail, before the plants were destroyed at area construction sites.

            The May wildflower walks are free, although donations to support the upkeep of the Trail, are welcome. No pre-registration is required. Walks will be cancelled in the event of rain.
