Guided Hike in Middlebury

The public is invited to explore the Hetzel Refuge in Middlebury, one of the preserves of Flanders Nature Center & Land Trust, during a free hike on Saturday, August 6 at 10 a.m. The Hetzel Refuge is located on Breakneck Hill Road, near the intersection of Mirey Dam Road in Middlebury. The hike is non-strenuous and lasts about 1.5 hours. Hikers should meet at the red barn/garage on Breakneck Hill Road and dress for the weather.

During the hike, leader Dave Terry, a member of Flanders’ Land Management Committee, will provide information about the property and the beaver lodges and activity on Mirey Dam Road.

Containing an excellent trail system, the Hetzel Refuge includes woodlands, hayfields, conifer plantations, swamps and several man-made ponds, all of which provide a haven for wildlife.
