Woodbury Swears in Region 14 SROs

Four new faces will greet Region 14 students when they come back to school this year.

Eight months have gone by since the tragedy at Sandy Hook School, said Woodbury First Selectman Jerry Stomski, adding that the town came together and saw what needed to be done.

Four school resource officers, or SROs, will interact with the students and be visible in the schools.

Stomski said that during the interviews for the SRO position, the four officers stood out for their expertise. He said the decision to hire four SROs is of interest to all school communities.

"The state and other towns and other regions are looking at us," he said.

Region 14 Superintendent Jody Goeler thanked the community.

"I can't wait to see their presence in the schools," he said.

Officer Ronald Currier will be stationed at Nonnewaug High School.

Officer Tom Federowicz will be at Woodbury Middle School.

Officer George Norm is assigned to Bethlehem Elementary School

Officer Craig Tibbals will be stationed at Mitchell Elementary School.
