Region 15 Students Head Back to School

Students across the region return to the classroom as summer vacation comes to a close.

The temperature is beginning to dip, the leaves are starting to change and the days are getting shorter. All these events can only mean one thing – it’s back to school time.

Thursday marked the first day of school in Region 15 as Southbury and Middlebury students bid farewell to summer and returned to the classroom.

With smiles, frowns and looks of disbelief Pomperuag High School students exited the building following their first day of classes this afternoon. Some heading to sports practice, others making their way to their newly assigned parking spaces and some waiting to hop back on the big yellow bus that delivered them there just hours earlier.

Many Pomperaug High School students showed reluctance to be back in school, wishing they could have extended summer vacation a bit longer.

“At first it was a disappointment to me that I had to go back to school,” said PHS senior Alex Croce following his first day.

Though the first day back in a classroom is a dreaded thought for some, the realization that it gets better soon arrives.

“As soon as classes started I realized I was excited for senior year and getting ready for applying to college and all the other aspects of being a senior,” said Croce.

Whether it’s a student’s last year, first year or somewhere in between, the yearlong journey got underway Thursday. Good luck, students!
