Region 14 Schools Add Professional Development Day

Region 14 Schools will now be closed Friday, Jan. 17.

At their Dec. 17 meeting, the Region 14 Board of Education voted to change Friday, Jan. 17, 2014 from a Modified Day to a full day of Professional Development, at the request of the Superintendent, Jody Ian Goeler.

Since Martin Luther King Day falls on Monday, Jan. 20, this will extend the break to a four-day holiday weekend.

According to a letter from Superintendent Goeler, the additional day "will allow professional staff at each school to participate in critical training and collaboration necessary to prepare for online testing, conduct reviews and evaluations of new programs, monitor school improvement initiatives, and complete work related to curriculum, instruction, and assessment."

At this time, the instructional time has not been rescheduled, though the letter says "it is most likely that the student time will be added at the end of the school year," pending additional days off for winter weather.
