Region 14's Melinda McKenna Resigns

The Bethlehem Elementary School principal accepted a new job in North Haven.

Melinda McKenna, Bethlehem Elementary School principal, is resigning from her post with the Region 14 school system.

"It is after deep reflection and mixed emotion that I leave BES," she said in an August 16, 2012, letter to Region 14 Superintendent Jody Goeler. "I have decided to leave Region 14 and begin a position as the director of instruction and curriculum in North Haven."

At the Monday, August 20, Region 14 Board of Education meeting, Goeler said McKenna will be missed.

"She will be here for the start of school and will be here for the transition," he told Patch. "We will hire an interim, if necessary."

In her letter of resignation, McKenna said Bethlehem Elementary School is in a good place for the start of school.

"Schedules, class lists and teacher information [are] all set, she stated.

When announcing McKenna's resignation to the Region 14 Board of Education, Goeler noted that the position she accepted — that of director of instruction and curriculum — was the very position he wanted to bring into the Region 14 district.

One down, the rest to go. I have no confidence in the Region 14 administration. We have good teachers who are being shackled by pc administrators. We need competent leaders not kool aid drinkers.

"Best wishes to her in her new job in North Haven. At least she will be staying through the transition to a new principal; our kids in this region have seen more than enough "transitions" in their short school careers." - Bonnie Vail commented on Facebook. www.facebook.com/woodmiddpatch

I thought she was a good principal. She was always present and made sure the students and parents all knew her. Any issues that I ever had personally were addressed quickly and professionally. I feel it is a great loss for BES.

I'm sure she is a very nice person. Most of the administrators are personable. But there is a difference between leading to improve our very fractured region and doing your job. I'm sure she'll do a good job in North Haven working for Dr. Cronin. Best wishes to her.

"I have decided to leave Region 14 and begin a position as the director of instruction and curriculum in North Haven." So Region 14 needed another $120,000.00 position that could have been filled by the elementary school principal. Does anyone else wonder what motives these decisions?

Education is a racket to overpay people who have too much formal education and not enough real world education.
