Region 14 Education Budget Passes by Healthy Margins

Both Woodbury and Bethlehem voters approved the 2014-15 budget in the second referendum

Region 14 voters approved the second 2014-15 budget proposal after the Board of Education reduced their initial request by just under $327,500.

The budget passed in both towns, with Woodbury voters agreeing to the spending request by a margin of 127 votes, 719-592, and Bethlehem voters passing it by 34 votes, 190-156.

The final unofficial tally Thursday night was 909 in favor to 748 against.

Funny how they keep anything to do with the Education Budget quiet to only get the supporters to vote.

What I saw with this budges is this - a whole lot of trickery. Last year was 5% - WAAY more than what would normally have passed because everyone I spoke with thought the renovations were included in that - so thought it was OK. BUT - guess what - they found out AFTER that the renovations were separate. So, a zero increase this year after 5% last year is still averaged out to 2.5% over both years. My son said that out of that huge increase - the ONLY thing he saw in the classrooms was iPads. And iPad carts that they were supposed to be able to use - but as of yet haven't been allowed to. I guess that is the big technology upgrade.

so how did that increase benefit the actual class rooms and teaching? It went to administrative costs which are getting out of control. and I don't want to hear about contractual agreement costs - I wasn't given a choice on those contracts so why am I being forced to pay for them.

Where'd the 250k for the administrators come from earlier this year?

They (BOE) can't be trusted. They pulled one over the voters again. ! Watch out, the Municipal Budget if due up next. Talk about wasteful spending. The voter must vote this budget down. There won't be anyone here left to pay the increases in taxes. This is bad. Just wait until you see next year. The BOS and BOF have failed miserably this year. We taxpayers will be paying dearly.
