Pomperaug High School Principal Leaving for Newtown

Dr. Lorrie Rodrigue thanks the students, faculty and community at Pomerpaug as she prepares to take the reins at Newtown High.

Pomperaug High School (PHS) Principal Dr. Lorrie Rodrigue announced last week that she will be leaving Region 15 this summer to take over as principal of Newtown High School.

Assistant Principal Michael Orefice has been tapped to serve as interim principal at PHS.

The search process for the next principal is underway and there will be ample opportunity for input from both faculty and the public, according to Region 15 Superintendent Regina Botsford. The district expects to appoint a replacement in time to begin early in the new school year, she said.

“Dr. Rodrigue is a gifted educator and principal,” Botsford said. “We were fortunate to have had her leadership at Pomperaug High School for the last 6 years and we look forward to building on her contributions in the future.”

In a letter to parents, Rodrigue shared the pleasure she derived from working with the outstanding high school staff at PHS, the engaged and supportive PTO and parent community, and the students whom she has come to know and respect during her time as principal.

“I will so miss the students of Pomperaug High School whose respect, hard work, and commitment to academic excellence have given me cause to be proud throughout my tenure,” Rodrigue said. “I have no doubt Pomperaug students will continue to demonstrate lifelong learning, service to their community, and dedication to the fields they pursue in the years ahead.”
