A Mural for Mitchell

In September, Mitchell Elementary School's School Resource Officer, Officer Craig Tibbals, began creating a Drug Awareness Resistance Education mural.

The following is a press release from Officer Tibbals.

It quickly became a task that every student in the fifth grade became a part of. The mural, an approximate four foot circle painted on the rear wall of Officer Craig’s office, displays the D.A.R.E Triangle.

This triangle represents the continuity and continuing support between educators, parents and the police. The placement of the mural greets everyone who walks through the front door. They immediately see that the D.A.R.E program is alive and well at MES. It is a powerful symbol that lets everyone know that students at MES have the knowledge, know how and power to make good choices. The D.A.R.E program that starts in February at Mitchell Elementary School is something that 5th grade students are looking forward to.

This project was also a great opportunity for the students taking DARE to ask questions of Officer Craig. As the students came into the office to paint, many talked about the D.A.R.E program, sports, school and what they enjoyed doing.

What an awesome job they did! The project gave the students a sense of accomplishment — this mural will be here for years to come.
