Westover Graduates 54 Members of the Class of 2014

Middlebury, Connecticut – Fifty-four members of Westover School’s Class of 2014 received their diplomas Friday, May 30th, as the School held its traditional graduation ceremonies – its 105th Commencement – within its historic Quadrangle.

This year’s graduates are from eight states – Connecticut, Florida, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Texas, and Virginia – and seven countries – Afghanistan, Bahamas, China, France, Russia, South Korea, and Spain.

In addition to the presentation of diplomas during the graduation ceremonies, awards were given to students for character and for academic achievement in a number of disciplines. On Thursday, May 29th, additional prizes were awarded during the School’s Orchard Ceremony to students for athletic, artistic, and academic accomplishments, as well as for personal qualities.

Stephanie Crudele, selected by her classmates, was the Senior Class Speaker. In her light-hearted talk, she encouraged her fellow graduates to take risks – albeit reasonable ones – in pursuing their college education and their future life choices.

Sonya Kim Heil, a member of the Class of 1994 who is now President and CEO of the Carl Fischer Music and Theodore Presser Company, was the commencement speaker. In her address to the senior class, she encouraged them not to rush to make life decisions before they are ready to do so. And, based on her own experience as a Westover alumna, she reminded the graduates that each of them now has “53 lifelong friends who will accept you as are, and that acceptance is unwavering.”

The graduation ceremonies then concluded with the seniors processing out of Quad to the School’s Molder Field, where they formed the Graduation Circle, with the seniors joining hands in an inner circle surrounded by the members of the three younger classes, who formed a larger circle around them.
