Westover Glee Club, Handbells to Perform April 14th Concert with Waterbury Youth Chorus

Westover's Glee Club and Handbell Ensembles will perform a concert with the Waterbury Youth Chorus April 14 in Waterbury.

Westover School’s Glee Club and Handbell Ensembles will perform a concert with the Waterbury Youth Chorus on Sunday, April 14th, at 4 pm, at St. John’s Church on the Green in Waterbury. Admission is free; no tickets are required to attend the performance.

The Westover Glee Club will sing music by Pergolesi and by living American composers. Westover’s two a cappella groups, the Overtones and Chantarelle, will sing contemporary a cappella songs. The Westover handbell groups will ring music for four octaves of handbells. The Waterbury Youth Chorus will perform pieces by Bach, Aaron Copeland, and several contemporary composers.

The Westover Glee Club and the Waterbury Youth Chorus will join forces to sing “Come All You People” and “Didn’t My Lord Deliver Daniel.”

The Westover Glee Club has sung numerous concerts at the School and throughout the northeast United States and Canada, as well as in nine European counties under the direction of Robert Havery. The handbell choirs, under the direction of Bonnie Havery, have also participated in the European tours.

Established in August 2011 by director Melissa Rooklidge, the Waterbury Youth Chorus is under the non-profit organization, Church Street Community Services, and is a community-based ensemble with members from Waterbury and the surrounding areas. The chorus is open to students in grades 2-12, of all levels of musical skill. The chorus performs in Waterbury and throughout Connecticut, including a holiday performance at Yale University in December 2012.

Westover is a selective boarding and day school in Middlebury, Connecticut, with 205 students in grades 9-12 from 16 states and 17 countries. The School offers its students more than 20 Advanced Placement courses as well as signature programs in science, engineering, art history, and music.
