Westover Annual Concert Friday, February 15th

Westover’s Glee Club and other student singing and instrumental groups will perform in their annual concert February 15th, beginning at 7:30 pm.

Westover School’s Glee Club, joined by other student singing and instrumental groups, will perform in their annual concert in the School’s Performing Arts Center Theater on Friday, February 15th, beginning at 7:30 pm.

In addition to the School’s Glee Club, the concert will feature the School’s handbell groups, the Gospel Choir, the Chamber Choir, a flute ensemble, piano soloists, and two a cappella groups. On the program will be choral music including movements for Pergolesi’s “Stabat Mater,” songs from South Africa, and several pieces by contemporary American composers, including Elizabeth Atkinson, Daniel Pinkham, Gwyneth Walker, Katie Moran Bart, and Eric Whitacre.

Tickets for the event are $15 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens. Some of the proceeds from the concert will go to support a trip by a group of Westover students to Rwanda in March, which will include a visit the Maranyundo School, an all-girls middle school in Nyamata, Rwanda.

On Sunday, February 17th, the Westover Glee Club and Gospel Choir will perform at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City. The groups will perform in concert following a concert following the Cathedral’s Service of Evensong; the concert should begin at approximately 5:00 pm. The Cathedral is located at 1047 Amsterdam Avenue. 

Westover is a selective boarding and day school in grades 9-12 with 205 students from 16 states and 17 countries. The School offers its students more than 20 Advanced Placement courses as well as signature programs in science, engineering, art history, and music.

How many kids is 18.1% of all students? According to wiki, there are 37.9 million kids in primaryRead More school. High school represents 4/13 of that number (roughly) so that's about 11.6M kids, give or take, in high school who smoke. Yikes.

Abuse of crack cocaine, heroin and the like have been proven to alter the brain chemistry, changing the user's personality, and frequently making them violent when they otherwise would not hurt a fly. These drugs are also used to benefit people who need them as prescribed by doctors. Tobacco has no such benefits. And skydiving? What does that have to do with tobacco? Does the skydiver harm other's health a month or more after he/she's been on the ground? No. Tobacco smoke does. It's called third hand smoke. Value? How can you compare art and entertainment with smoking? Anybody can attend an art gallery and not adversely affect anybody else. Any normal person can watch TV or play video games without committing suicide or harming anybody. Smoking hurts everybody and helps no one every time a smoker lights up. Drugs and alcohol, when used in moderation or under the direction of a doctor, can be helpful. Tobacco can not make the same claim.
