Countless Hours

As I started my School Resource Officer (SRO) position in August of 2013, I thought to myself, now I could actually see how an elementary school operates from the inside. Well, not only have I been entrusted with the safety and wellbeing of hundreds of students and the many staff members, but it has opened my eyes to just what it takes to make a school operate on a day to day schedule. That old saying “Don’t judge a book by its cover” is such a fitting quote to the teachers that entice our children to be lifelong learners. We can all remember back to that one teacher that really made an impact on our lives by a simple lesson or even a word. The countless hours of dedicated teachers and staff members are astonishing.

My hat also goes off to the many dedicated parents that put countless hours into events, decorations, etc… Many of these parents have a certain expertise that the children find interesting and have offered their expertise to enhance the educational experience.

Lastly, parents talk to your children. In this day and age of electronics it’s easy to be consumed by them. Take the time during breakfast or dinner or even before bed to actually look at your child and talk. Face it, we all live hectic lives but we can make a difference if we stop, look, hear and talk.
