HGTV's House Hunters Comes to Middlebury

First, it was Gordon Ramsay at the Curtis House. Now, it's HGTV's House Hunters and Middlebury business owner Edite Calabrese.

Calabrese is the broker and owner of Realty Executives ICON in Middlebury and she's all too familiar with the thrill of the house hunt. She shows her clients three homes and asks us the question: "Can you guess which one they pick?"

The clients looked at homes in three different towns — Bethlehem, Brookfield and Southbury. Candlewood Shores in Brookfield was one of the properties shown, Calabrese said.

Middlebury residents will see familiar sites too, as Calabrese said filming took place in her Middlebury office.

"Middlebury was filmed during the couple's decision-making time," she said. "At a very nice place in Middlebury."

How did this come about?

"I'm a fan of the show and I watch it all the time and I always noticed that all the shows were filmed out west for the most part and I noticed there was little shown of New England, especially Connecticut," Calabrese said.

So she reached out the House Hunters powers-that-be and told them how beautiful Connecticut is and how much the state has to offer. The staff asked her to send a video and they liked what they saw.

Calabrese found clients who were interested in being on the show and they too sent a video. And that's how real estate reality TV magic is made. House Hunters conducted the filming last fall and winter, she said.

When will the show air?

The episode will air at 10 p.m. Thursday, July 25, on HGTV Channel 56. Check your local listings as air time could change.

Calabrese created a House Hunters in Middlebury Facebook event detailing when the show will air, so if you'd like to receive updates, feel free to join the event.
