Voter Turnout Dismal in Today's Primary

Voters were trickling in this afternoon, for today's Republican primary.

 

Dismal. Awful. Sad. Those were some of the words used to describe the turnout at the polls today.

Polls for the close at 8 p.m. today — Tuesday, April 24 — and Jane Sandulli at the said the turnout is terrible.

At 12:56 p.m., turnout was just shy of nine percent. Of the 2,389 eligible Republicans on the list, 211 had voted.

"Hopefully something will change by this evening," she said.

At in Middlebury, turnout was seven percent as of 1:18 p.m. Of the 2,404 Republicans on the list, 170 had voted.

Moderator Betty Proulx said some people in town did not know about the primary and asked why the town had not posted signs.

"It's a federal election," she said."If the candidate wants to post signs, they can do so, but it's not the town's responsibility."
