First Selectman Gerald Stomski praised his administration's accomplishments and thanked supporters during his final State of the Town report Monday night.

He kept the mood upbeat, paying tribute to town officials, volunteers, and the citizens of Woodbury for their support throughout his term in office. He also offered well wishes for the new board, led by Selectman Elect Bill Butterly, who defeated Stomski on election night.

The outgoing first selectman thanked Woodbury's Police Department and emergency personnel for their top notch performance during the 2011 October snowstorm, Tropical Storm Irene, and Hurricane Sandy.

Stomski said the town's new "lifesaving" telecommunications program should improve the "operability of communications during storms" and urged residents to sign up for Code Red, Woodbury's emergency alert system.

The Parks and Recreation Department also received accolades from Stomski for successful events instituted over the last few years, including Earth Day (in conjunction with New Morning Market), the Civil War reenactment, Dog Days, movie nights at the Senior Center, Trick-or-Trunk, and the Healthy Woodbury Initiative

Regarding empty buildings on Main Street, Stomski said his administration, along with the Zoning Commission, helped improve the chances for new businesses to move in.

Finally, Stomski thanked outgoing selectmen George Hale and Barbara Perkinson for their years of service. He said his administration accomplished great things and wished the incoming Board of Selectmen, on which he'll continue to serve, "good luck in trying times."
