Sounds From A Skating Session In Woodbury

Would the noise from the Woodbury skate park bother you if you lived next door?

It’s a sunny Friday afternoon in early August and a couple of youngsters are practicing their moves at the Woodbury Skate Park. They roll up and down ramps, back and forth, and do the things that little guys on skateboards do - ride, olly, spin, and chill out, and then they do it all over again.

Unbeknownst to the two boys, their riding at Hollow Park and the noise it makes has become the focal point of a pretty heated debate in this quiet town.

The noise from the skate park is bothering at least one nearby homeowner, Sheri Moon Zombie — wife of famous rocker and Woodbury resident Rob Zombie, who voiced her concern about the park’s noise at the annual town budget meeting in June. In light of the complaints, the town has reduced hours at the skate park and spent a couple thousand dollars to mitigate the sound.

One Woodbury resident, who was watching her son ride at the park on Friday, doesn’t see what all the fuss is about.

“I don’t live right here, but the park is never very crowded and it’s not very loud,” Heather Abel said. “It would be a shame if it were to close for the whole town because of the complaints of a couple people.”

Granted there were only two kids at the park on Friday, but tell us what you think of the noise (based on the sound from the video and your firsthand experience)?
