POLL: End to Death Penalty in Connecticut Likely

Legislators in Hartford, Conn. will vote to put an end to capital punishment. The people on death row will still be put to death if the law passes.

Months after convicted killers for their role in a brutal Cheshire home invasion, state senators voted on Wednesday to abolish the death penalty.

If the vote passes and is signed into law by Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, existing death penalty cases would be unaffected. For future cases the death penalty would no longer be an option.

According to the Wall Street Journal, 34 states use the death penalty and in the past five years, three states have voted to ban the punishment. Only one person has been executed in more than 40 years. Michael Ross, a serial killer who preyed on young girls and women, was executed in 2005.

"I am against the death penalty as our judicial system is not always fair and too many circumstances slips through judicial cracks... you can't release a dead person if found innocent..." -- Kathleen, on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/WoodMiddPatch

Sandy Randall McLean: "In this particular situation concerning the Cheshire home invasion where a premeditated crime was committed against totally innocent victims I feel strongly that the penalty should fit the crime." https://www.facebook.com/WoodMiddPatch
