Region 14 Closed Due to Weather; Superintendent Discusses Threat, K-9 Sweep at Nonnewaug

Due to the snowfall in Connecticut, Region 14 schools are closed on Jan. 16. Superintendent Jody Goeler said the district is also using the opportunity to further secure school buildings after a threat written on a wall at Nonnewaug was discovered.

Region 14 schools are closed today — Wednesday, Jan. 16, Superintendent Jody Goeler confirmed via an early morning e-mail to Patch today.

He also elaborated on why police dogs were called to Nonnewaug High School this week:

A non-specific threat was written on a bathroom wall in the Agriscience Center. We consulted with state and local police. They agreed to sweep the school with k-9's and provide police presence. They advised us to hold the scheduled basketball game at the high school and continue with school.

However, our schools are closed today due to weather. We will take this opportunity to further secure our buildings, working with police.
