Police: Waterbury Mom Stole Cash, Credit Cards from Elderly Couple

An elderly Middlebury couple was robbed after a family offered to shovel their driveway Tuesday afternoon, police say.

An elderly couple reported stolen checks, cash, and debit cards from their home on Joy Road Tuesday afternoon.

According to the couple, a 12-year old boy and his parents knocked on their door Tuesday afternoon and offered to shovel their driveway. While the boy shoveled snow, his parents waited inside. After the boy and his parents left, the couple noticed the missing items, police said.

Middlebury Police found the boy and his father in Naugatuck, and quickly cleared them of all charges, according to the police report.

The boy's mother, Edna Brewer, 38, of Waterbury was subsequently charged with Fourth Degree Larceny, Credit Card Theft, and Identity Theft.

Brewer was released on a $10,000 non surety bond and will be arraigned in Waterbury Superior Court on Dec. 23.
