Middlebury Police Investigate Thefts From Unlocked Cars

Police urge residents to lock cars and remove valuables following recent thefts.

Middlebury Police and other Waterbury area departments are investigating a string of recent thefts of items from unlocked vehicles.

Police are investigating approximately 15 incidents where cars have been "rifled through in the past couple of days," acting Middlebury Police Chief Richard Wildman said in a statement released Thursday.

The vehicles were entered without force and items like GPS units were reported stolen, police said.

The incidents have been reported at the Steeple Chase Development and the Triangle Boulevard area in Middlebury, according to police.

Residents in the Waterbury area are being urged to "to lock their cars and remove valuable items from their cars such as laptops, IPADs, GPS Units, cell phones, wallets, and most importantly the car keys or spare keys that maybe in the glove boxes," the statement said.

Residents are also urged to report anything out of the ordinary and anyone with any information regarding the incidents should contact Middlebury Police at 203-577-4028. Officer Marcantonio and Officer Demers are investigating these cases.
