One Dead in Route 8 Crash

State police said the accident happened just before Exit 30 in Waterbury, a little over a mile north of the Naugatuck town line.

A man is dead Sunday morning, May 27, following a fatal car accident on Route 8, a short distance north of the Naugatuck town line, state police said.

The male operator was driving northbound on the highway when the accident occurred in the right lane around 4 a.m. just before the Exit 30 off-ramp in Waterbury, said State Police Public Information Trooper Kelly Grant.

Grant said no further information was available as of Sunday morning, and that state police are not releasing the man’s name yet because the next of kin has to be notified.

The accident remains under investigation. Access to the highway was reportedly limited due to police presence on Route 8.
