Negligent Homicide Arrest Stems from Middlebury Car Accident

Wolcott resident Francis M. Cariso Jr., 26, of 13 Jasmine Lane, was arrested on Thursday, Oct. 3, on one count of negligent homicide with a motor vehicle, stemming from an April 15 accident on Route 64 in Middlebury.

Cariso turned himself in to Middlebury police after learning of an active arrest warrant.

“The arrest stems from an accident which occurred on 04/15/2013 on Middlebury Road near North Street in Middlebury, CT where Cariso was operating a 2004 GMC pick-up truck, crossed over the center line from the eastbound lane of Middlebury Road and struck a 2004 Kia being operated by Carmela Varrone of Middlebury, CT who died sometime later,” Acting Chief Richard Wildman said in a press release.

Varrone was westbound on Middlebury Road, he said. According to an obituary on the Chase Parkway Memorial website, Varrone died on May 13.

Cariso was released on bond. A court date is scheduled for October 15 at Waterbury Superior Court.
