Monday Morning Accident Shuts Down Route 64 in Middlebury

An accident involving three vehicles shut down Route 64 in Middlebury for 90 minutes Monday morning.

According to the police report, a Dodge pick-up truck driven by Jonathan Martin, 33, of Seymour, veered into the oncoming traffic lane on Route 64 around 7:30 Monday morning, striking a GMC van driven by Rocco Cipriano, 27 of Wolcott. The impact caused Cipriano's car to roll over.

A third vehicle, driven by Domenic Rinaldi, 46, swerved to avoid the collision and also went off of the road, striking some rocks, police said.

The accident occurred in front of the Middlebury Convalescent Home.

The Middlebury Fire Department Ambulance, with assistance from a Campion Ambulance Paramedic, transported Rinaldi and Cipriano to St. Mary's Hospital in Waterbury. Both men were treated for non life-threatening injuries.

Police shut down Route 64 to investigate the crash and remove the involved vehicles. Investigating officers subsequently issued Martin a warning for Failure to Drive Right.
