Middlebury Police Investigate 2 Truck Thefts Thursday

Police are looking into a possible connection between two vehicle thefts.

A Middlebury resident of Whittemore Road near Shadduck Road reported that his 2008 Red Chevy Truck was missing from his driveway around 7 a.m. Thursday morning and that the vehicle was most likely stolen overnight.

The vehicle is actually owned by Hocon Fuel of 20 Railroad Hill Street in Waterbury. The victim's personal vehicle had also been rifled through.

A few hours later a person walking the Bridle Trail off of Shadduck Road in Middlebury noticed a white pickup truck stuck along the side of the trail. When police investigated further, it was discovered that it was a 1994 Chevy pickup truck owned by Scott's Swimming Pools located on Washington Road in Woodbury. The truck was reported stolen from Torrington earlier that morning.

Middlebury police are theorizing that the perpetrator(s) most likely got the white pickup truck stuck and abandoned the vehicle, according to acting Chief Richard Wildman, before walking down Shadduck Road and onto Whittemore Road to steal the red pickup.

Middlebury police officer Kathy Blick is investigating both incidents.

Abuse of crack cocaine, heroin and the like have been proven to alter the brain chemistry, changing the user's personality, and frequently making them violent when they otherwise would not hurt a fly. Does the skydiver harm other's health a month or more after he/she's been on the ground? No. Tobacco smoke does. It's called third hand smoke. Value? How can you compare art and entertainment with smoking? Anybody can attend an art gallery and not adversely affect anybody else. Any normal person can watch TV or play video games without committing suicide or harming anybody. Smoking hurts everybody and helps no one every time a smoker lights up. Drugs and alcohol, when used in moderation or under the direction of a doctor, can be helpful. Tobacco can not make the same claim.
