Middlebury Man Arrested for Charging $2,300 to Stolen Sears Card

Middlebury Police working with the Sears Loss Prevention Department began an investigation early Monday afternoon into some unauthorized purchases in the amount of roughly $2,300.

A Sears Credit Card had been stolen from the victim and she did not realize it until she was contacted by Sears Loss Prevention. Working with Sears at the Brass City Mall in Waterbury, Middlebury Police were able to identify the perpetrator through surveillance video and physical description provided by employees.

Vincent Townsend, 26, of Kelly Road in Middlebury, was arrested and charged with larceny in the third degree, illegal use of a credit card, receiving goods by illegal use of a credit card, identity theft in the third degree and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to police, Townsend used the credit card to purchase electronics, which were later traded for drugs.

Townsend was held on $100,000 bond and arraigned in Waterbury Superior Court Tuesday morning.
