Mailboxes Take Hit in Middlebury

Police report that a handful of mailboxes were struck by vehicles and vandalized.


A resident of Tranquility Road reported at 9:38 a.m. on July 14 that the mailbox to their home had been vandalized. The victim reportedly has video, police said.

Two days later another Tranquility Road resident reported that their mailbox had been knocked down by a green 4-door Jeep Cherokee. The vehicle reportedly came up on the grass and took it out. The incident was reported at 9:03 p.m. on July 16.

On July 14, at 9:07 a.m., a report was made that a mailbox had been vandalized on Wheeler Road.

On Longmeadow Road, a mailbox was struck sometime overnight between July 10 and 11.

Credit Car Fraud

Vincent Townsend, 24, of Kelly Road in Middlebury, was charged with issuing a bad check in relation to what the police blotter referred to as fraud with a credit card. The incident was reported at 1:40 a.m. on July 12.

Suspicious Activity

The parent of a girl watching children at a house on Watertown Road called police at 2:18 p.m. on July 16 to report suspicious activity. The person reported that a female came by the house selling educational items for children. The seller gave no name and no ID when questioned. She left in a light blue Mercury SUV bearing an unknown out-of-state red white and blue license plate.

Car Keyed

The hood of a 2012 Ford Fiesta was reportedly keyed in a parking lot on Woodside Avenue around 7 p.m. on July 8.

Plates Stolen

License plates were reported stolen from a vehicle on Porter Avenue at 4:22 p.m. on July 15.
