Fisher Walks Within Feet of Middlebury Woman

The incident is one of many animal-related reports; others include lost and found dogs, and baby racoons wandering around.


A Maple Drive woman called police at 3:52 p.m. on July 17 to report that a fisher had just walked by within feet of her.

According to the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), "the fisher is a rewarding sight to the wildlife observer."

Missing Dog

A 1- 2-year-old female English setter name Katie got loose on White Avenue on July 17 at 340 p.m. Katie as not wearing her collar. She is white with black spots.

Roaming Pit Bull

A Park Road resident reported seeing a large pit bull roaming near her building at 8:27 a.m. on July 16. The dog was white with some red/brown. The incident was referred to Waterbury Animal Control.

Dog Left in Vehicle

A tow truck operator dog reported that a dog was left in the vehicle parked on Woodside Avenue at 9:32 p.m. on July 13. The windows were reportedly up. It checked out OK, according to .

Missing Dog

A 3-year-old cockaboxer named Lily was reported missing since 12:30 p.m. on July 10. Lily has various sized black spots and she is about knee-high height and approximately 30 pounds. She was wearing a pin and white polka dot collar.

Dog Found

A tan pit terrier-mix with a collar on was found near the Greenway in the Steinmann Avenue area at 11:10 a.m. on July 7. The dog is in pound.

Injured Raccoon

A resident reported that a raccoon was walking down Lockwood Road toward Long Meadow, and appeared to be dragging its leg. The incident was reported at 9:16 a.m. on July 6.

Lost Dog

A Boston terrier was reported missing at 8:15 a.m. on July 6. No additional information was immediately availabe in the police report.

Raccoon Spotted

A raccoon was seen on the lawn of Shadduck Road residence at 7:32 on July 8.

Dead Fox

A dead fox was found along the roadway on Upper Whittemore at 10:59 a.m. on July 10.

Baby Raccoon

A baby raccoon was spotted walking in circles on the side of Sandy Hill Road at about 4:13 p.m. on July 10.

Bulldog in Pound

A brown and white English bulldog is in the pound following an animal complaint that came in at 6:24 p.m. on July 10. The report originates from Straits Turnpike, but no other information was immediately available.

Abuse of crack cocaine, heroin and the like have been proven to alter the brain chemistry, changing the user's personality, and frequently making them violent when they otherwise would not hurt a fly. These drugs are also used to benefit people who need them as prescribed by doctors. Tobacco has no such benefits. And skydiving? What does that have to do with tobacco? Does the skydiver harm other's health a month or more after he/she's been on the ground? No. Tobacco smoke does. It's called third hand smoke. Value? How can you compare art and entertainment with smoking? Anybody can attend an art gallery and not adversely affect anybody else. Any normal person can watch TV or play video games without committing suicide or harming anybody. Smoking hurts everybody and helps no one every time a smoker lights up. Drugs and alcohol, when used in moderation or under the direction of a doctor, can be helpful. Tobacco can not make the same claim.
