A 2003 Nissan SUV operated by Jeffrey Tuohy, 30, veered from the northbound lane of Christian Road and crossed over to the left side of the road, crashing into a house at 145 Christian Rd., according to a press release from Middlebury Police Department Lt. Richard Wildman.
The crash occurred around 11:58 p.m. Sunday, June 10, and caused structural and foundation damage to the home. Middlebury Police and the Middlebury Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene.
The occupants of the house, Mary Jane Ziehl and Kobi Beaulieu, were woken up by the crash but not injured, police said.
The driver of the car, Tuohy, was not injured in the accident and the investigation indicates he fell asleep while driving, Lt. Wildman stated.
The Middlebury Fire Department checked the house for structural integrity and electrical hazards. Fire Marshal Tony Bruno was on hand for preliminary structural inspection and the incident was referred to the Middlebury building inspector for further evaluation. The investigation is ongoing.
