Car Hits Guardrail, Sideswipes Oncoming Vehicle

Was it texting? The Middlebury Volunteer Fire Department says: "no."

The details of a Friday, August 31, car accident caused a Facebook fan to ask: Was it texting?

"Sunny, dry day on a straight road...texting?" Derrick Dumoulin asked on the MVFD Facebook page.

"Not this time," the MVFD replied. "But that happened a few weeks ago. There was an accident on Straits Turnpike directly related to texting."

Here is the description of the accident from the department's Facebook page:

"Motor vehicle accident on Straits Turnpike near Turnpike Drive late this morning. Two vehicles involved. A vehicle driving south, drove into the guardrail and bounced off and sideswiped an oncoming northbound vehicle. Engine 3 responded with FD12 and two patients were transported to the hospital, one by FD12 and the other by Campion Ambulance. A minor fluid spill was also controlled."
