Brazen Burglar Hits Woodbury Neighborhood

Woodbury Police are working hard to catch a suspect who they say went on a burglary spree in town — and they're urging residents to take extra precautions to safeguard their homes and personal belongings.

According to Sgt. Joseph Roden, commander of the Woodbury Resident Trooper's Office, seven separate calls were made to police on the morning of Sept. 27, reporting thefts from residences and vehicles.

One involved a break-in during the overnight hours in which a burglar entered a home while the residents were asleep and stole various items. There were no signs of forced entry to the home, Roden said.

"It's obviously highly concerning that someone would actually enter a residence while residents were inside sleeping," he said.

Based on the information immediately available, the nature of that incident falls short of being consider a home invasion under the letter of the law, Roden said, noting that a home invasion would involve "deadly weapons" with the intent of committing a felony.

It's more likely a case of first-degree robbery.

Among the items stolen during the spree were a vehicle and an ATV. Loose change and other personal effects were taken from cars, Roden said, noting that some items were found discarded along roadways. A window was smashed on at least one vehicle.

• Lock residences, when you're home and not home
• Lock vehicles
• Remove or hide personal belongings from vehicles
