Butterflies for Newtown

Paper Butterflies are being mailed from all over the world to Pomfret CT where they are being held till spring when they will replace the Paper Snowflakes in Newtown, CT.

In the aftermath of the tragic event in Newtown, Connecticut, people from around the world are being asked to create Paper Butterflies that will be sent to Sandy Hook Elementary School,  Newtown, CT as well as the Police and Fire Departments of Newtown for an ongoing show of love and support.  Send to the address below; do not send to Newtown directly.

Paper Butterflies will be used to decorate the school as the seasons change.  The butterflies can be made any size up to 18" diameter. Please color them on both sides so they can be viewed in the rooms and outside from the windows. They can also be hung as if in flight if you tie a line of string or fishing line to them.  Schools are asked to instruct teachers that want to participate to create a single paper butterfly per classroom as a class project. Having all the children decorate a single Paper Butterfly will decrease the numbers of butterflies mailed and increase the numbers of schools represented in Newtown. You might have heard that many more paper snowflakes came in than could ever be used. We pledge to use each and every paper butterfly sent.

Butterflies can be sent NOW and should arrive no later than March 15th.  They will be brought to the school for the teachers to decorate their rooms as the season changes.  The paper snowflakes were such a beautiful show of love and support and as the seasons change we want to continue that for the people of Newtown.   When the earth transforms from the cold and dark of winter the butterflies will help usher in spring with the promise that “We will never forget.”

Paper Butterflies can be sent to: Butterflies for Newtown
