Today's Wine of the Week is a full-bodied red wine called 25 Lagunas Malbec. Peggy King of recommended the wine for its rich taste and friendly price, retailing between $8 and $12 in most shops.
We learn from the label that the wine is named "Lagunas" after a chain of 25 interconnected lagoons once inhabited by an indigenous Huarpe tribe. The members of the tribe traveled in small canoes called "lagooners."
The lagoons, now dry, left behind rich mineral deposits that are particularly exceptional for the production of wine, according to the Wine Legacy website.
Food Pairings with 25 Lagunas Malbec
- Roasted meats
- Steak
- Pasta
- Soft cheeses: goat cheese or brie cheese, for example
Because of the plum and berry flavors in this wine, I'd like to try it with a recipe that incorporates those flavors, like this epicurious recipe for pistachio-crusted pork with plum sauce and fried leeks.
