Welcome Spring: Timeless Traditions on the Equinox [Video]

How do you celebrate the return of spring?

Happy Spring, everyone! Tuesday, March 20, marks the vernal equinox, the point at which the sun crosses north over the equator, heralding spring. Day and night are equally long on the equinox, leading many to view it as a day of balance.

How do you celebrate the vernal equinox?

Anecdotally, I know people who garden, folks who try to balance eggs on one end (a myth, but feel free to try), and others who spring clean, go shopping for new clothes or take a nice, long hike. In North Stonington, Conn., they have a traditional spring equinox dance. (See video attached.) And in Annapolis, Md., they burn their socks…

Along with the change of season, the equinox is used to mark holy observances in many faiths, including Passover, held on the first full moon after the equinox, and Easter, celebrated on the first Sunday after the first full moon after the equinox.
