In honor of the rigorous ritual, the DIY Life website offers an eco-friendly, homemade furniture polish as an alternative to store-bought polish.

  1. Squeeze the juice out of a lemon.
  2. If you don't have a lemon available, pour four tablespoons of lemon juice into a small spray bottle.
  3. Mix three tablespoons of water and two teaspoons of olive oil with the lemon juice.
  4. Shake well.

The DIY Life website recommends making a new batch each time you want to polish your furniture, as the olive oil can become rancid.

Tip: Use a soft terry cloth to polish furniture instead of paper towels.
