Walter Castings, 64

Walter Castings graduated from Nonnewaug High School and worked for Woodbury Texaco/Citgo for 40 years.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday Dec. 28 at 10 a.m. at North Congregational Church in Woodbury. Immediate family and close friends are also welcome to attend a military service that will take place at the VFW Post, 308 Tinkerfield Road, Newtown on Saturday, Jan. 4 at 1 p.m.

There are no calling hours.

Walter “Walt” John Castings, 64, passed away on December 9, 2013 at St. Mary’s Hospital with his loving wife, Katie Coad, by his side.

Walt was born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island on November 29, 1949 to the late Donald and Norma (Ware) Castings. He was a graduate of Nonnewaug High school. He served in Vietnam and was a highly decorated United States Marine. Walt was a member of the VFW post 308 in Newtown.

Walt worked for Texaco/Citgo for 40 years in Woodbury where he met many wonderful people over the years. His smile touched many people.

In addition to his wife Katie, he is survived by his sister, Donna Colella and her husband Michael of Naugatuck, his brother, James Castings and his wife Jeannie of Waterbury, his two children, Walter Castings, Jr. of Woodbury and Rachel Montessi and her husband Tony of Roxbury, his granddaughter, Hailey Montessi, his stepdaughter, Melanie Krauss, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert Castings and his nephew, Austin Mordowanec.
