Obituary: Theresa K. (Gmuer) Bette, 94, of Southbury

Bette enjoyed fishing, playing cards, archery and ballroom dancing. She had family locally in Woodbury and Southbury.

 

Theresa (Gmuer) Bette, 94, of Southbury, died quietly at her home on Sunday, April 8, 2012.

She was born in Bronx, N.Y., on December 16, 1917, daughter of the late Charles and Katherine Gmuer. She resided in Southbury for 65 years.

Married to the late Francis Bette for 63 years, the two enjoyed a long and vibrant retirement together. In addition to traveling and yearly summer trips to Maine, Bette loved to needlepoint and crochet, which earned her a number of ribbons at the local country fair.

Her greatest pleasure though came from donating a number of crocheted baby sweaters to the St. Thomas Church fair. In addition to fishing, she enjoyed playing cards, archery and ballroom dancing. She was a devout communicant of .

She leaves three sons and one daughter; Richard Bette and his wife Betsey of Southbury; Stephen Bette and his wife Marybeth of Spring Mount, Pa.; Paul Bette and his wife Maureen of Woodbury; and Margaret Kanning and her husband Dick of Sanford, N.C. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was predeceased by 10 siblings.

Memorial Mass: 11 a.m. Saturday, April 14, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 733 Oxford Rd. Oxford.
