Obituary: Nicodemo Rinaldi, 90, of Waterbury

Services for Nicodemo Rinaldi will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 10 and 11.

 

Nicodemo Rinaldi, 90, of 322 Chestnut Hill Avenue, Waterbury, died Sunday, July 8, 2012, in the presence of his loving family, after a courageous battle with a stroke and cancer. He was the widower of Nicolina Rinaldi.

Rinaldi was born on January 29, 1922, son of the late Giuseppe and Felicia (Guerrera) Rinaldi. He served in the Italian Army during World War II. He came to Waterbury from Italy in 1977. He worked as a cabinet worker for Lewis Millwork for 10 years, retiring in 1987. He loved gardening and picking wild mushroom with his children and grandchildren. He was a communicant of St. Lucy’s Church.


He leaves two sons, Michele Rinaldi and his wife Gesummina and Alberto Rinaldi and his wife Anna, all of Waterbury; three daughters, Felicia Longo and her husband Francesco of Caserta, Italy; Patrizia Guerrera and her husband Salvatore and Franca Polletta and her husband Raffaele, all of Watertown; nine grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Domenico Rinaldi and a sister, Rosa Mucciacciaro.

Rinaldi's family would like to sincerely thank the staff of and Aurora Senior Living at Bucks Hill for the care, comfort and compassion given to him during his illness.

Calling Hours: 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, at Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury

Funeral: 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 11, from Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church for a 9:30 a.m. mass.

Entombment: Following at Calvary’s Queen of Peace Mausoleum.

Abuse of crack cocaine, heroin and the like have been proven to alter the brain chemistry, changing the user's personality, and frequently making them violent when they otherwise would not hurt a fly. These drugs are also used to benefit people who need them as prescribed by doctors. Tobacco has no such benefits. And skydiving? What does that have to do with tobacco? Does the skydiver harm other's health a month or more after he/she's been on the ground? No. Tobacco smoke does. It's called third hand smoke. Value? How can you compare art and entertainment with smoking? Anybody can attend an art gallery and not adversely affect anybody else. Any normal person can watch TV or play video games without committing suicide or harming anybody. Smoking hurts everybody and helps no one every time a smoker lights up. Drugs and alcohol, when used in moderation or under the direction of a doctor, can be helpful. Tobacco can not make the same claim.
