Obituary: Lorraine Johnston, 90, of Waterbury

Lorraine Johnston was an employee of Timex.

 

Mrs. Lorraine A. “Memere” (Lemieux) Johnston, 90, of 34 Lemay Street, Waterbury, died Friday, September 28, 2012, at the VITAS Innovative Care Unit at St. Mary’s Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was the widow of John Johnston Sr.

Lorraine was born in Waterbury on May 15, 1922, daughter of the late Adjutor and Anita (Vanesse) Lemieux. In her younger years, she was employed at Robert Shaw Lux Clock, Uniroyal and Timex. She later retired from the Waterbury Republican- American. She was a life long communicant of the Shrine of St. Anne’s. She was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne’s, the Counsel Villa Maria of St. Anne’s, the South Waterbury Seniors and the St. Francis Seniors.

Lorraine was also First President of St. Anne’s Home and School Association, and held various officers positions at LaSalette Seminary, where her sons attended. This past June, she was honored as the “French Mayor of the Day”. She enjoyed her senior years playing bingo with her many friends. “ -50! “

She leaves two sons, Mark Johnston and his wife Cathy of Waterbury, Kevin Johnston and his wife Theresa of Marion, a daughter, Claudette Corcoran and her husband Dennis of Waterbury, a brother, Ernest Lemieux and his wife Mary of Southington, four grandchildren, Malinda Johnston, Jacqueline Mulhern, John Johnston, James Johnston, three great grandchildren, Alison Gilbert, Alex Tavales, Madison Silber and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Mary Johnston, granddaughter, Lorrie Johnston, her brothers, Rene Lemieux, Harvey Lemieux, Henry Lemieux, George Lemieux, her sisters, Rhea Pavlon, Annette Morin, Anita Marcil.

Calling Hours: 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30 at Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home

Funeral: 9 a.m. Monday, Oct. 1, at Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, to the Shrine of St. Anne for a Mass at 10 a.m.
