Obituary: Joseph Scacco, 94, of Waterbury

Funeral services will take place on Saturday, August 4.

Joseph Scacco, 94, formerly of Griggs Street, died Thursday, August 2, 2012, at the Meridian Manor Health Center.

Scacco was born in Waterbury on March 8, 1918, son of the late John and Mary (Dimperio) Scacco. He was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson Grammar School and Crosby High School. He was first employed at Kings Kitchen in the Elton Hotel and later became the Bellman at the Elton, where he stayed for 30 years. He later worked for the Bambi Bread Company, until he retired.

At the Elton, Scacco met President John F. Kennedy during his visit to Waterbury and he also met the actor Victor Mature. The Philip Morris Company wanted him for their cigarette commercials but he turned down their offer, due to the fact he had to care for his mother.

He leaves his niece, Diane Basil of Watertown, and his nephews, Donald J. Scacco Sr. of Woodbury, and Thomas Scacco of Waterbury.

Funeral Mass: 9:30 a.m. Saturday, August 4, at St. Lucy’s Church, 24 Branch St. Waterbury.
