In Memoriam: Evelyn Hill, 95

Mrs. Evelyn F. Hill, 95, of Woodbury died Monday October 7, 2013 at VITAS in Waterbury. She was the wife of the late Lester Hill.

Mrs. Hill was born March 16, 1918 in Waterbury, a daughter of the late Robert Chester and Jane (Crownshaw) Fowler. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Rhode Island State College in 1940 and taught home economics for 6 years at Housatonic Valley Regional High school. She was a 70 year member of the Grange and currently Oxford Grange. Her interests included local history and genealogy.

She is survived by a son, Newell and his wife Janet (Miller) Hill of Washington, two daughters, Lynette Zaniewski of Woodbury and Jane Haines and her husband John of Seymour, six grandchildren, Jason Zaniewski and his wife Shellie of New Britain, Alicia Ryno and her husband Michael of Austin, TX, Jamieson Zaniewski of Brooklyn, Robert Hill of Paso Robles, CA, Matthew Hill and his wife Amanda of New Milford and Brendan Hill of Woodbury, and three great grandchildren, Taylor and Sarah Zaniewski and Alexandra Hill.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday October 10th at 11am St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Woodbury. Burial will follow in New North Cemetery, Woodbury.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday October 9th from 6 – 8pm at the Woodbury Funeral Home of Munson – Lovetere, 2 School St.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Woodbury Volunteer Ambulance Association, PO Box 581, Woodbury, Ct 06798.
