While many places are offering free admission for mom (Stepping Stones Museum for Children, Beardsley Zoo and Quassy Amusement Park) or a nice breakfast for the family (at the Bridgewater Firehouse on Saturday plus various brunches), I am a fan of relaxing at home without the demands of motherhood.
Of course, another ideal day for mom may involve heading out to a special event, in which case these can easily be fun for the entire family.
For a full day of fantastical fun, this is the opening weekend of the Robin Hood Festival in Guilford. If Mom wants to join in the fun, there will be a Mother's Day brunch on Sunday, May 13.
My husband has often gifted me with a day of peace and quiet by taking the kids fishing. They bring a bike and a book, and, in the case of my little guy, a backpack with some toys. Woodbury residents can even participate in a fishing derby on Saturday morning.
Saturday is National Train Day. Dad and the kids can enjoy rides and activities at the Danbury Railway Museum.
Mom can also enjoy a free walk at Flanders learning about wildflowers with the Pomperaug Valley Garden Club.
Perhaps Mom and Dad can get away to enjoy a train ride from the Railroad Museum of New England to Haight-Brown Vineyard.
