Mattatuck Unitarian Universalist Society service

Local author, Jack Lander, of the Mattatuck Unitarian Universalist Society, 122 South Pomperaug Avenue will speak at the February 19, 2012 service at 10:30am. His subject matter involves those who no longer have a roof above their heads.
"Homelessness has always been with us. But our time is unique, and the common image of the homeless has changed," he said.
The recent corruption of home mortgage trading that resulted in the default of homeowners, has left thousands of ordinary people homeless. The most fortunate of these cohabit with relatives and friends. Others, less fortunate, live in their cars, sleeping at night in the parking lots of Walmart stores. "Less well known is the ousting of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered  persons from their homes due to having 'come out'. Some of their stories will be told," said Lander.
The public is welcome. Refreshments will be available after the service.
