Flanders presents a program on NW Connecticut’s Growing Black Bear Population

Michael
Evans, a doctoral student in wildlife biology at UCONN has constructed bear
hair collecting stations at Flanders and several other Northwestern
Connecticut sites for a DEEP study to gain bear population
estimates in the epicenter of the states growing black bear population. Due in
part to forest

re-growth on abandoned farmland, bears have been returning to Connecticut
with resident population now estimated to be in the hundreds, primarily in Northwestern Connecticut. Come learn from Mike’s
knowledge and experience, including how to best coexist with the black bears in
our backyards.
